La Liga is a men’s top certified football of the Spanish football league system known La Liga Santander because of sponsorship reasons. Since its inception total of 62 teams has played in La Liga. The competition won nine teams such as Real Madrid won the title 33 times and FC Barcelona 26 times. The Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia are the strongest teams who have won several titles during the 1940s.

In the 1950s the Barcelona and Real Madrid succeeded the championship and have won four La Liga titles each over the decade. Real Madrid conquered the league and won 14 titles in the 1960s to 1970s, Atletico Madrid won 4 times. Real Madrid was the leader in the league from the 1980s to 1990s, however, Real Sociedad and Basque clubs of Athletic Bilbao have won two championship titles.  Barcelona dominated the league from the 1990s and has won 16 titles so far, while the most famous team Real Madrid won 8 titles, La Liga competition has won many other teams such as   Deportivo de La Coruna, Atletico Madrid, and Valencia.  

From 2013-2019 the La Liga has been the top league in Europe, according to UEFA’S League coefficient rankings. La Liga clubs won the many championships including  UEFA Europa League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup. The Best FIFA Men's Player achievements such as FIFA World Player of the Year and awards for UEFA Men's Player of the Year include  UEFA Club Footballer of the Year.

La Liga Format:

Usually, the La Liga format follows the double round-robin, this league held every season in August and will end in May. Every team plays two times one home match and one away, all they have played a total of 38 games with each other. The winning team received three points, one for a draw and the looser team did not get any point. The teams ranked decided by total points, the top-ranked club will be the champion at the end of the season.
